About The Fairy Godmother Project
The Fairy Godmother Project of Houston was started in 2000 as a grass roots organization to help students in the Houston area who cannot afford to purchase a prom dress or tux. Each year we provide hundreds of students in the Houston area with free prom, graduation and Homecoming dresses and tuxedos. We collect donations year-round.
Volunteers assist students during the annual shopping day by helping them select one prom dress and two other dresses for graduation or other special occassions.
The "personal shoppers" also help students choose jewelry, shoes, purses and cosmetics for their prom.
Prom is a tradiational event for American high school students. Every student should have the opportunity to attend prom regardless of their personal or financial background.
Our organization has grown with the support of community members who have cleaned out their closets, collected dresses and mentored the students at the annual shopping day. Our grass roots organization exists because of the support from volunteers and the community. Many prom dreams have come true from the generosity of donors.
